Barack Obama is a political celebrity, how can that fact be denied? Is this an attack ad? Is it really?
The purpose of political ads is to grab attention, to make you think or to challenge the opponent. This ad accomplishes all objectives in 30 seconds! From a marketing/creative/advertising point of view this is genius!
Realize this ad targets the undecided or independent voters, and it does so very well, it will make them think or re-think Obama. Folllowers of McCain and Obama will love it or hate it.
From a PR perspective it has been a very successful ad, with wide coverage in the media, over a one million views in YouTube, over 12,000 comments, blogs all over the place are talking about it, mine included!
I am an independent on this race, looking at a fascinating campaign in the USA from Canada, and honestly this is the first original, creative ad I have seen from either candidate. Obama is the favorite in the US election, that is abundantly clear, the Republicans have made too many mistakes too merit re-election, but it does seem McCain is willing to be a tough contender.
