iPhone SDK Released Today - Amazing Software Roadmap Ahead!
Amazing news from Cupertino, Apple is changing another market yet again. Palm is close to toast after this announcement, and even RIM should worry.
This is my quick analysis on today’s news:
Strategic Implications
- Apple is targeting the Enterprise for the very first time
- Apple is behaving realistically, licensing MS Activesync to reach the Enterprise market now, and not in a few years.
Market Impact
- Apple is now targeting RIM directly, and the Blackberry
- Huge growth opportunity beyond consumers.
Developers
- The Mac becomes the platform where to develop iPhone apps. iPhone Simulation on a Mac announced. XCode tool support announced, this is simply awesome!
- Big market opportunity, and Apple Stores will sell iPhone software
- Enterprise segment opens up for developers
- Expect a deluge of apps!
Technology
- The first real challenge to Blackberry’s push format will arrive very soon.
All I can say is this: I am buying an iPhone very soon, and will build an app, it has never been easier or better to write a mobile app than today.
Bright future for the iPhone. Ambitous plans, but if Steve Jobs does his job right, this is potentially huge.
